"If you don't wear lipstick, I can't talk to you"- Isabella Blow
Isabella Blow (1958-2007), the woman who jump started the careers of Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy, discovered Stella Tennant and Sophie Dahl and worked for various fashion magazines including American Vogue. She always pushed fashion to the limits with her outrageous outfits and hats. If you have a chance I strongly recommend her biography Blow by Blow, written by her husband Detmar Blow. It is a very honest and moving account of her career in fashion, her personal life and battle with depression.
The hat in the last photo is stunning. I've got this funny feeling that Dita Von Teese is wearing this exact one in a book of hers I own.
ReplyDeleteI love this entry! I had the pleasure and the privilge of meeting her many years ago during an exhibition of Traceys hats, she said I looked cute like a doll and she liked the dress I was wearing. I HAD no idea who she really was till afterwards. I have her autograph that I treasure till this day. She really did have an amazing presence about her.
